About Us

The San Francisco Historical Society is the common thread that binds San Francisco's past, present and future. SFHS  fulfills its mission of preserving Bay Area history through a broad spectrum of programs and special events, such as history walks, the Barbary Coast Trail and Standing Ovations - its annual celebration of San Francisco culture.

The Society produces two publications: The Argonaut, a beautiful journal featuring photographs and in-depth reviews of our city's history; and Panorama, a quarterly newsletter for members that features upcoming programs and events including those of other Bay Area historical groups.

SFMS is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization (Tax ID 68-0104888) dedicated to the preservation, interpretation, and presentation of the rich historical heritage of San Francisco and the Bay Area.
